FSSA Update

NFPA Fall 2010 Report on Proposals

During the FSSA annual meeting last week, the FSSA technical director Tom Wysocki presented an update on NFPA standards activities. Several standards of particular interest to members of the FSSA are covered in the F2010 ROP including NFPA 2001, NFPA 12 and a new standard NFPA 3.

The FSSA encourages all members to review the changes which have been proposed for NFPA standards in the Fall 2010 ROP and submit comments for the betterment of the NFPA standards.

Anyone may comment on the proposals in the ROP. One does not need to be a member of NFPA to offer a comment. Each duly submitted comment must be addressed by the NFPA Technical Committee responsible for the particular NFPA document. Further, if the Technical Committee does not accept a comment, the submitter has the right to submit a Notice of Intent to Make a Motion (NITMAM) which, if certified, permits the submitter to move his comment on the floor of the annual NFPA meeting. If the majority of the NFPA members voting at the annual meeting approve the comment, a procedure is followed which generally either will include the comment as part of the revised standard or cause the related text in the NFPA standard to revert to the text in the current edition.

Please remember, comment closing date is March 5, 2010 5 PM Eastern Time. Comments may be mailed, faxed or emailed to
